South GeorgiaLEADS is growing!
South GeorgiaLEADS (SGL) continues to invest in South Georgia’s future success by identifying and developing leaders who understand and can speak to the unique challenges and opportunities that are collectively experienced throughout the region. Ten years into the launch of the program, SGL has evolved its initiatives and efforts to respond to the region and its needs in real time.
Cultivating leadership in every corner of its 32-county footprint and beyond through its seminal program—the traditional South GeorgiaLEADS program, now referred to as SGL’s Regional Leadership Initiative (RLI)—SGL 2.0, an intensive leadership experience for program alumni, and most recently, the South Georgia Women’s Leadership Initiative (WLI), a program which features an emphasis on the leadership experience of the women who live, work and call South Georgia home; South GeorgiaLEADS serves as the hub for leadership capacity in the region.
Partnering with the University of Georgia J.W. Fanning Institute for Leadership Development and Valdosta State University’s Center for South Georgia Regional Impact, SGL has built a strong foundation to support its continued efforts in the region.
We now have three distinct and robust leadership programs to choose from:
Regional Leadership Initiative (RLI)
Formerly called South GeorgiaLEADS, the Regional Leadership Initiative is our flagship program, started in 2014 by economic development professionals across the South Georgia region who understand the critical importance of investing in a new generation of leaders.
RLI 2.0
Formerly LEADS 2.0, RLI 2.0 is a more in-depth leadership program focused on real-world problem-solving and actionable solutions for high-priority issues across the region. RLI 2.0 classes are offered every few years and are open to RLI alumni applicants.
Women's Leadership Initiative (WLI)
The Women’s Leadership Initiative began in 2023, by women and for women, with an emphasis on what is unique to female leadership. The program provides women with a platform to discuss the challenges they face in the workplace and in elected and civic capacities throughout the region.
